Traditional wired Ethernet connection
Home networking is based on Ethernet, because 99% of the world's network devices are connected by ethernet. Not only that, most of the networks now have Ethernet interfaces when they leave the factory, so they can be connected to the network through Ethernet
In the past, the home network is implemented through the Ethernet cable, it is also known as wired home network, which in the family setting method is as follows: DLS, ADSL and other broadband lines connected to the modem (also known as cat), then the DLS and ADSL broadband modem signal into Ethernet signal then, the Ethernet signal transmission to the wired router with an Ethernet cable, the router through the Ethernet cable signal cable routing to the network equipment in the family, so as to realize the computer, notebook computer, printer and other networking equipment.
Modern wireless Ethernet connection
Now, most mobile devices, intelligent mobile phone and notebook computer can realize the wireless connection through WiFi technology, WiFi is a kind of short distance wireless connection technology, wireless connection to realize the intelligent mobile phone, notebook computer and other network equipment, wireless router is essential.
Wireless router not only has the function of wired router mentioned above, but also supports wireless application protocol. It can convert wired Ethernet signal into wireless WiFi signal, and also convert wireless WiFi signal into wired Ethernet signal. As a result, the biggest difference between modern wireless home networks and traditional wired home networks is the different routers used. Now, WiFi has penetrated into every aspect of our lives, and wireless home networking has become the first choice for many families.
Extended home network
Nowadays, there are more and more devices available in home, wireless router can also realize many wireless connections of network devices, but some network devices do not support WiFi connection, so Ethernet network must be realized through ethernet. Today, most of the wireless routers in the market only have one WAN interface (used to connect modems) and 4 Ethernet interfaces, which is not enough for the home network with more wired network devices.
The easiest way to solve this problem is to add a family of switches, it is a semi intelligent network extender, mainly used for signal transmission, can carry out multiple ports of data transfer between the at the same time. The diagram below is an example of adding switches to the home network. In the diagram, the function of the switch is to extend the Ethernet port to allow more devices to access the network.  Depending on the requirements, you can choose 8 port switches, 16 port switches, or even more.
